Why Is The Check Engine Light On In My Subaru Forester?

The check engine light can warn you about many possible issues ranging from a Gas Cap that is not perfectly tightened, to a more dangerous failure like an Engine Misfire or Bad Catalytic Converter and Oxygen Sensors. The best thing to do if the Check Engine Light is on in your Subaru Forester is to call The Subaru Guys right away so that our team of ASE Certified Technicians can help you decide the best course of action.

It's never a fun feeling when you’re driving along in your Subaru Forester and suddenly the Check Engine light turns on. If you’re like most Subaru owners, your heart sinks a little because you're unsure what the light is trying to tell you. The Check Engine Light coming on doesn’t necessarily mean you have to pull the car over to the side of the road and call a tow truck. However, if the Check Engine light is blinking, it is a sign that you need to get your car off the road and to Reincarnation Inc as soon as possible. Even if your Check Engine Light is on but not blinking, it is recommended that you get your Subaru Forester checked by The Subaru Guys as soon as possible. Ignoring a blinking or Illuminated Check Engine Light warning could end up causing major damage to expensive Engine Components.

When your Subaru Forester's ECM (Electronic Control Module), which is the vehicle's onboard computer, finds a problem in the Electronic Control System that it can’t correct, the computer turns your Check Engine Light on. This amber light is typically labeled “Check Engine” or “Service Engine Soon”, or the light may be nothing more than a picture of an Engine, or a picture of the Engine with the word “Check.”

When the Check Engine Light turns on, the ECM stores an Engine Code or “Trouble Code” in its memory that identifies the issue, whether it's a Sensor or a Failing Engine Part. Other Malfunction Indicators may turn on as well. It is common to see the Cruise Control Light Blinking or other lights for the Traction/Stability Control Systems. These Trouble Codes and Freeze Data are read with Electronic Scan Equipment specific to Subarus and is the same tooling that is used by Subaru Dealerships. Reincarnation Inc., always includes our Digital Inspection process as well to accurately diagnose the problem. This combination of technologies makes the whole experience easier to understand as well!

Although there are numerous potential causes of an Illuminated Check Engine Light, we know from years of providing Check Engine Light Diagnosis Service, that there are several common causes for the Check Engine Light to illuminate. Some common reasons for a Check Engine Light can be a malfunction with the Fuel Injection System, Faulty Head Gaskets, Damaged Oxygen Sensor, Faulty Emissions Control Parts, Dirty Mass Airflow Sensor, or Defective Spark Plugs to name a few. No matter the root cause of the Check Engine Light, Reincarnation Inc.
